Max Verstappen Criticized Over ‘Risky’ Ferrari Test at Nordschleife

Max Verstappen has come under fire after taking part in a high-speed test session at the challenging Nürburgring Nordschleife, where he was seen driving a Ferrari 296 GT just days after finishing fourth at the Miami Grand Prix.

The Red Bull star initially tried to conceal his identity by using the alias “Franz Hermann,” but later confirmed he was behind the wheel at the legendary circuit. The move has drawn strong criticism, particularly from former F1 driver and Sky Sports Germany pundit Ralf Schumacher.

“If I were his team boss, I would have asked him if he was out of his mind,” Schumacher said on the Backstage Pit Lane podcast. “I know many won’t like to hear it, but the Nordschleife is incredibly dangerous. It’s not a place to take unnecessary risks.”

He pointed to the track’s history and its ban from hosting DTM races due to safety concerns: “GT3 cars are extremely fast, and accidents can happen in an instant. I understand racing GT3s, but why choose the Nordschleife?”

Verstappen, who owns the GT3 team Verstappen.com Racing, is now turning his attention back to Formula 1 as he prepares for the upcoming Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. He currently sits third in the drivers’ championship, trailing McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.

Elsewhere in F1, Lewis Hamilton has signed a new deal, while a top Ferrari driver is expected to miss this weekend’s race in Imola.
