Max Verstappen Expected to Race in Spanish Grand Prix Despite Absence Rumors

Recent speculation has raised questions about whether Max Verstappen will miss the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix, but no official statement from Red Bull Racing or Formula 1 has confirmed his absence from the race at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

The reigning world champion has experienced a challenging 2025 season so far, currently sitting behind McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in the drivers’ standings. Talk of a possible absence resurfaced following Verstappen’s decision to skip media duties at the Miami Grand Prix earlier this year due to the birth of his first child—though he did compete in that race. Sources close to Red Bull have maintained that Verstappen remains fully committed to the remainder of the season.

Fueling further speculation is the introduction of new FIA regulations targeting flexible front wings, set to be enforced beginning with the Spanish Grand Prix. Some observers believe these changes may be linked to Red Bull’s recent performance struggles, including setup difficulties on Verstappen’s car. However, there is no indication that these issues would cause him to sit out the race.

Earlier this year, Verstappen jokingly referenced hypothetical reasons for skipping a race—such as receiving a penalty for swearing—but firmly stated, “I could, of course, skip a race, but I won’t. That’s not part of being a racing driver.”

With practice sessions for the Spanish Grand Prix kicking off on May 30, all eyes are on Red Bull to confirm its final driver lineup. Based on current information, Verstappen is expected to take part in the race.

Unless an unexpected development occurs, Max Verstappen will be on the starting grid in Barcelona, focused on turning his season around.
