BREAKING: McLaren Chief RESIGNS in Shock move with Official Statement that…read more
In a major shake-up within the motorsport world, Zak Brown has stepped down as McLaren Racing’s CEO to assist Andretti Autosport in its push to join Formula 1. Brown’s decision marks a pivotal transition, as he shifts from leading one of F1’s most storied teams to helping an American outfit secure a spot on the grid.
During his tenure at McLaren, Brown played a crucial role in the team’s resurgence, guiding them from midfield struggles to championship contenders. Under his leadership, McLaren clinched the 2024 Constructors’ Championship—its first since 1998—while drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri consistently delivered podium finishes, including Norris’ victory at the Miami Grand Prix.
Brown was also a strong advocate for F1’s budget cap, a move that not only leveled the playing field but also bolstered McLaren’s financial health, resulting in a reported £13 million profit in 2023.
His next challenge lies with Andretti Autosport, which has faced hurdles in its bid to enter F1. Despite initial resistance from Formula 1 and Liberty Media, the team has made progress, particularly with General Motors, through its Cadillac brand, planning an entry in 2026. Andretti has also strengthened its infrastructure with a new Silverstone facility and leadership restructuring.
Brown’s extensive industry connections and business acumen are expected to be key assets in Andretti’s campaign. His departure leaves McLaren at a critical juncture as the team seeks to sustain its recent success under new leadership. Meanwhile, Andretti’s pursuit of an F1 grid slot gains momentum with Brown now in its corner.
