FIA Clears McLaren After Post-Miami Grand Prix Investigation
McLaren has been given the all-clear by the FIA following a detailed inspection of Oscar Piastri’s car after his victory at the Miami Grand Prix.
In the lead-up to this weekend’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, the FIA confirmed that Piastri’s MCL39 was randomly selected for a post-race technical examination, alongside Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari. The inspection focused on the car’s four wheel assemblies, including the wheels, brake drums, and braking system.
The investigation was conducted to verify compliance with the sport’s technical regulations, particularly Article 31.3, which covers wheel bodywork components like brake scoops, drum deflectors, and cooling ducts, and Article 11.5, which restricts the use of fluids to cool brake systems.
“After the race in Miami, car #81 was randomly chosen among the top 10 cars for more extensive physical inspections,” stated the FIA. “Subject to these physical inspections were the wheel bodywork assemblies.”
Following the checks, the FIA confirmed that McLaren’s car met all requirements, ruling out any concerns about the legality of its braking setup and dispelling rumors of water-based brake cooling systems.
With the investigation now concluded, McLaren heads to Imola free of technical controversy and fully focused on continuing its strong form.
