Mercedes announce special Lewis Hamilton livery plans for final
Mercedes is giving fans a special opportunity to have their names displayed on Lewis Hamilton’s car for his final race with the team at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
This symbolic gesture honors the historic partnership between Mercedes and Hamilton, who has won six of his seven World Championships with the team, contributing to Mercedes’ eight-year dominance from 2014 to 2021 in the Constructors’ Championship.
A total of 150 fans will be selected to have their names appear on Hamilton’s W15 car for the Abu Dhabi event. To enter, fans simply need to go to the Mercedes website, submit their name, email, and country of residence.
The contest opened at 0900 GMT on November 14 and will remain open until 23:59 GMT on November 26. Entrants must be at least 18 years old, and participation is free.
This final race marks the end of a significant chapter as Hamilton is set to leave Mercedes for Ferrari at the end of the 2024 season, a move confirmed before the season began.
While Hamilton’s tenure with Mercedes will conclude with the season finale in Abu Dhabi, it appears he won’t be able to start his Ferrari journey until 2025.
According to PlanetF1.com, Hamilton will not be granted an early release from Mercedes to join Ferrari for post-season testing in Abu Dhabi.
The final days following the Abu Dhabi race will instead be devoted to promotional activities and farewell events honoring Hamilton’s time with Mercedes.
Ferrari has plans to help Hamilton adapt to his new team by scheduling several Testing of a Previous Car (TPC) sessions before the 2025 season. This will allow Hamilton some on-track time in Ferrari machinery before the season opener in Melbourne.
Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur expressed confidence that Hamilton, as a highly experienced driver, would not require extensive testing to perform well, suggesting that a few TPC sessions along with pre-season testing in Bahrain would suffice for his acclimatization.
Vasseur also stated that part of Ferrari’s operations are already focused on the 2025 season, which includes coordinating test schedules and communication strategies with Hamilton in mind, although his integration with Ferrari’s race team will only begin in 2025.
