Mercedes has been handed an official ruling from the FIA after breaking curfew at the 2025 Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka. Despite the breach, no penalties will be imposed.
The Silver Arrows have enjoyed a strong start to the season, with Lewis Hamilton’s departure making way for rookie Kimi Antonelli, who has impressed with his performances, alongside George Russell. Russell, Mercedes’ No 1 driver, has quietly been accumulating points, helping the team secure second place in the Constructors’ Championship standings.
Following positive results in Melbourne and Shanghai, where both Russell and Antonelli finished in the points, Mercedes emerged as an early surprise contender. However, the team ran into a slight issue in Suzuka.
According to the official FIA technical report, Mercedes team personnel were found to be on the track during the curfew period, which ran from 17:30 local time on April 3, 18 hours before the scheduled start of FP1. The report confirmed that the team had breached the curfew but emphasized that this was the first of three exceptions allowed for the team throughout the 2025 season.
The FIA concluded that no further action would be taken, as the violation falls within the rules that permit limited curfew breaches. As such, Mercedes will not face any penalty for the infraction.
