Former Formula 1 driver Marc Surer has expressed doubts about Lewis Hamilton’s ability to maintain his competitive edge when he transitions from Mercedes to Ferrari. Speaking on the Formel1.de YouTube channel, Surer acknowledged Hamilton’s vast experience but pointed out that his advancing age could pose challenges in terms of maintaining the raw speed that younger drivers possess.
Surer initially recognized the excitement surrounding Hamilton’s move to Ferrari, noting that the announcement would certainly capture attention. However, he warned that while the initial enthusiasm may be high, Hamilton’s age could be a limiting factor in the long term. “When Hamilton arrives, it’s a positive story at first,” Surer remarked, “but in the long run, it’s the wrong decision. Lewis Hamilton is getting old.” The British driver, who will turn 40 before the 2025 season kicks off, faces the inevitable reality that age can affect performance in a sport as demanding and fast-paced as Formula 1. Though Hamilton’s wealth of experience and tactical understanding of races will be valuable, Surer suggested that it could be difficult for him to maintain
