Michael Schumacher, the seven-time Formula One world champion, reportedly made his first public appearance in over a decade at the wedding of his daughter, Gina-Maria. Schumacher, who has lived a life of seclusion since suffering life-changing injuries in a skiing accident in 2013, is said to have attended the private ceremony held at the family’s villa in Majorca, according to reports from The Mirror.

The accident, which occurred while Schumacher was skiing in the French Alps with his son Mick, left the F1 legend with severe head injuries. Despite wearing a helmet, Schumacher struck a rock, and the impact caused him to require immediate medical attention. He was airlifted to Grenoble Hospital in France, where he underwent two surgeries and was placed in a medically induced coma. After spending several months in the coma, Schumacher was transferred to his home by Lake Geneva in September 2014, where he has been receiving round-the-clock care ever since. His condition has been kept largely private, with only close family and a few friends allowed to visit him, making any news of his public appearance especially significant.

Gina-Maria’s wedding, where Schumacher was reportedly present, marked a rare moment for the public to hear about the iconic driver’s health. The ceremony, which was highly private, took place at the family’s luxurious £27 million mansion in Majorca. This property was purchased from Real Madrid’s long-serving president, Florentino Perez, in 2017. Guests attending the wedding were reportedly asked to leave their phones at the door to ensure the event remained as private as possible, according to Ultima Hora, a local Majorcan news outlet.

Despite the strict privacy measures, it was revealed that Schumacher was present to witness his daughter marry Ian Bethke, a rider from Germany. Gina-Maria, Schumacher’s eldest daughter, is an accomplished equestrian like her mother, Corinna Schumacher, and the wedding was said to have been a joyous occasion, with live country music and a grand banquet.

The ceremony reportedly began at 4:15 p.m., with the couple exchanging vows at around 4:45 p.m. Gina-Maria later shared a photo from the event on her Instagram account, captioning it with the words: “Forever yes to you, yes forever.” This was one of the few glimpses the public received from the wedding, which was otherwise described as “ultra-private.”

Among the attendees was Michael Schumacher’s brother, Ralf Schumacher, who is known to have a complicated relationship with the situation surrounding Michael’s health. Ralf, while present at the wedding, has reportedly not been fully informed about his brother’s condition, as the family continues to maintain a strict level of privacy regarding Schumacher’s ongoing medical care.

Schumacher’s wife, Corinna, has been steadfast in her dedication to her husband’s care since the accident, remaining by his side as his primary caregiver. While official updates about Schumacher’s health are rare, this reported appearance at his daughter’s wedding suggests a positive, albeit cautious, glimpse into his condition. It is unclear how much Schumacher was able to participate in the ceremony, but his presence alone at such an important family event has brought a rare sense of hope and positivity for fans who have long awaited updates about his recovery.
