Newey RETIREMENT plans revealed

Adrian Newey, the renowned Formula 1 design genius, has revealed that he seriously considered retiring after his departure from Red Bull in 2024. In an exclusive interview, Newey spoke about his plans for the future and reflected on what lies ahead when he eventually steps away from F1.

Newey’s exit from Red Bull in 2024 caused quite a stir in the motorsport world, especially given his significant contributions to the team over the past 18 years. His departure led to widespread speculation about his next move, with Ferrari initially thought to be the front-runners to secure his expertise. Media reports in Italy even suggested that Newey had already agreed to join Ferrari, with some speculating that his arrival would coincide with Lewis Hamilton’s much-discussed potential move to the team. However, those reports turned out to be inaccurate as Newey ultimately decided against joining Ferrari.

Instead, in a surprising twist, the British designer confirmed that he would be moving to Aston Martin in 2025, taking on the role of managing technical partner. Newey will officially join Aston Martin in March 2025, but he made it clear that his primary influence will be on the team’s 2026 car, as that is when new regulations are expected to come into play. Despite the anticipation surrounding his move, Aston Martin has warned that Newey’s impact on the 2025 car will be limited, as the focus is mainly on the development of the 2026 challenger.

Interestingly, Newey revealed that after leaving Red Bull, he briefly entertained the idea of stepping away from F1 altogether. He shared that his decision-making process was a personal one, involving discussions with his wife, Mandy. Newey admitted that, financially, he was in a fortunate position and no longer needed to work, which meant he could easily have chosen to retire and enjoy a more leisurely lifestyle. “It could have been simply retiring and sitting on the beach or doing something entirely different,” Newey said in an interview with Auto Motor und Sport.

However, after much contemplation, Newey decided to continue his career in F1, albeit in a new capacity with Aston Martin. Despite the possibility of retiring or pursuing other ventures, his passion for the sport and the technical challenges it presents led him to commit to another major chapter in his career.

Newey’s legacy in F1 is already firmly established, with numerous championship-winning cars and groundbreaking designs under his belt. His move to Aston Martin marks the next phase of his storied career, as he looks to contribute to the team’s ambitions of challenging the sport’s established giants. Fans and industry insiders alike are eager to see how his expertise will shape Aston Martin’s future and whether he can lead them to even greater success in the coming years.

Ultimately, Newey’s decision to delay retirement speaks to his deep love for F1 and his continued desire to push the boundaries of automotive engineering.
