Legendary guitarist Tony Iommi recently opened up about the friendly rivalry between two of rock’s biggest names: Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. Speaking in an interview, Iommi shed light on the dynamic between the iconic bands during their prime and revealed intriguing details about a long-forgotten jam session.

While both bands were pioneers of heavy music in the 1970s, Iommi clarified that the competition was more playful than hostile. “There was always a sense of rivalry, but it was more about pushing each other to be better rather than animosity,” he remarked.

Iommi also shared an anecdote about a mysterious jam session involving members of both bands. “We did have a jam together once, but unfortunately, it wasn’t recorded. It’s a real shame because that was a moment in history that could’ve been something special,” he lamented.

Despite the rivalry, Iommi spoke fondly of his friendships with Led Zeppelin’s members, particularly guitarist Jimmy Page. “There was always mutual respect between us,” he added.

This glimpse into the camaraderie and competition between these rock titans serves as a testament to their enduring impact on music history. Fans can only wonder what that unreleased jam session might have sounded like.
