Charles Leclerc Collides with Lance Stroll in Early Monaco GP Incident
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc suffered an early setback at his home Grand Prix after making contact with Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll during the opening minutes of Free Practice 1 (FP1) at the Monaco Grand Prix. The collision brought out a red flag less than 10 minutes into the session.
The incident unfolded at the famous Fairmont Hairpin. Stroll had just moved aside to let a faster car pass and was rejoining the racing line when he failed to notice Leclerc closing in. As a result, the Ferrari driver plowed into the back of the Aston Martin, damaging his front wing and halting his run.
“That’s 100 per cent on Lance and the team to be honest,” remarked Sky Sports F1 commentator Karun Chandhok, criticizing the Aston Martin garage for the lack of awareness.
The crash is a frustrating start for Leclerc, who is hoping to turn around his luck at his home circuit. Ferrari mechanics now face a race against time to repair the car ahead of the next session.
Action at the Monaco Grand Prix resumes with more practice ahead of Saturday’s crucial qualifying round.
