Christian Horner provides updates on Max Verstappen’s future after admitting talks with Mercedes

Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has dismissed speculation over Max Verstappen’s potential departure, emphasizing that the reigning world champion has “always been crystal clear” about his commitment to the team. Horner’s comments come amid revelations that Verstappen held discussions with Mercedes in 2024, fueling rumors of a possible switch.

In 2024, Red Bull faced a challenging season, with their dominant form dipping and internal tensions reportedly surfacing between Horner and Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko. Amid the turbulence, Verstappen’s long-term future with the team was called into question. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff openly admitted efforts to recruit the 27-year-old driver, and Aston Martin was also rumored to be interested in securing Verstappen’s signature.

However, Horner remains resolute in his belief that Verstappen is staying put. “Max has always been crystal clear with us when it comes to his future,” Horner stated. “He’s fully committed to Red Bull, and despite the speculation and interest from other teams, he won’t be going anywhere.”

Toto Wolff’s public pursuit of Verstappen highlighted Mercedes’ intent to strengthen their lineup, particularly as they look to reclaim their former dominance. Meanwhile, Aston Martin’s growing competitiveness added another layer of intrigue to the situation.

For now, Verstappen’s loyalty to Red Bull appears unwavering. The Dutchman has enjoyed immense success with the team, securing four consecutive world titles by 2024. His relationship with Red Bull has been a cornerstone of his career, and Horner is confident that the partnership will continue into the future, even as rival teams attempt to shake things up.

With the 2025 season fast approaching, Red Bull is aiming to rebound from their 2024 struggles and reaffirm their position as the dominant force in Formula 1—with Verstappen leading the charge.
