Changes to the Dallas Stars Roster: Former First-Round Pick Named for Debut.
General manager Jim Nill of the Dallas Stars announced on Friday, April 5, that forward Mavrik Bourque has been recalled from the Texas Stars, signaling an imminent NHL debut for the prospect in the coming days.
Bourque was previously called up by the Stars during the 2023 postseason but did not see any action, remaining a healthy scratch. Following roster adjustments ahead of the 2024 regular season, he had not been called up until now.
According to head coach Pete DeBoer, Bourque is expected to make his NHL debut during an upcoming two-game road trip. However, the specific game for his debut was not disclosed.
As Bourque is yet to play his first NHL game, it remains uncertain how he will be utilized by the Stars heading into the playoffs.
Drafted by the Stars in the first round of the 2020 NHL draft as the No. 30 selection, Bourque has since played 142 games with the Texas Stars, the team’s AHL affiliate. Over three seasons, he has amassed 124 points. This season, Bourque leads the AHL with 72 points (26 goals, 46 assists) in 66 games. His impressive performance led to his call-up to the Dallas Stars, where he has already participated in practice sessions with the team.
