FIA Issues Verdict on Max Verstappen After Canadian GP Investigation.

The FIA has announced that Max Verstappen will not face any penalty following an investigation into a potential breach of regulations during qualifying for the 2025 Canadian Grand Prix.

The Red Bull driver had come under scrutiny after allegedly failing to follow pit lane protocol during Q2, specifically stopping beside the fast lane before rejoining the queue of cars exiting the pits. The incident raised questions over whether Verstappen had infringed Article 34.8 of the Formula 1 Sporting Regulations, prompting a formal review by the stewards.

 Stewards’ Decision

After reviewing footage and telemetry, and hearing from both Verstappen and Red Bull team officials, the FIA concluded that no sporting regulations were breached. The stewards emphasized that Verstappen remained within the working lane and did not gain an unfair advantage during the maneuver.

“Having reviewed the video evidence, we find no conclusive breach of the regulation. The car remained outside the fast lane and rejoined in a safe manner,” the official FIA verdict stated.

 Race Implications

With the verdict, Verstappen retained his front-row start and went on to claim his 60th career victory at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, fending off strong challenges from Lando Norris and George Russell, who finished second and third respectively.

The win marks Verstappen’s third consecutive triumph in Canada and keeps Red Bull firmly in the Constructors’ Championship lead.

 A Cloud of Caution

However, Verstappen’s championship journey is far from clear. The Dutchman now stands just one penalty point away from a one-race ban, stemming from earlier infractions this season – notably a clash with Russell at the Spanish Grand Prix. Should he pick up another penalty before June 30, Verstappen risks becoming the first reigning F1 World Champion to receive a race suspension.

 Championship Outlook

Despite his Canadian win, Verstappen still trails Oscar Piastri by 49 points in the Drivers’ Championship standings. With intense competition from McLaren and Mercedes, and mounting pressure on his racing conduct, Verstappen’s road to a fifth title remains uncertain.
