Norwich City striker Adam Idah has been named on the bench for their Championship opener against Oxford United, as transfer rumors linking him to Celtic continue to swirl.
This speculation follows reports earlier in the week that Celtic had submitted an increased bid for the Irish forward.
However, with the new season underway for both clubs, Idah remains at Norwich’s Carrow Road.
Today’s match marks the first competitive outing for Norwich’s new manager, Johannes Thorup.
He faces some selection challenges, notably the absence of Jonathan Rowe, who has attracted interest from French side Marseille.
Despite these challenges, Thorup opted not to start Idah, who had a mixed last season.
Although the 22-year-old forward only made seven starts, he managed to score nine goals, including two crucial goals in the Glasgow Derby.
Idah’s last competitive appearance was in the Scottish Cup Final on May 25, where he found the net.
His goalscoring form in key matches, such as his brace against Hibernian in February, has been noted, especially since Celtic’s squad has weakened somewhat during the off-season.
Celtic’s recent sale of striker Oh Hyeon-gyu to Genk has left the team with fewer options up front, with Mikey Johnston now the primary alternative to their star forward, Kyogo Furuhashi.
Celtic fans are keenly aware of Idah’s potential impact, especially given his previous performances in the Scottish league.
With the club’s next match against Hibs looming, the uncertainty around Idah’s future is a key talking point.
If Celtic manages to secure his transfer, he could provide much-needed firepower as they aim to strengthen their squad for the ongoing season.
However, as things stand, Idah remains a Norwich player, with his future still up in the air as both clubs continue to navigate the early stages of their respective cam
paigns.
