BREAKING NEWS: Jos Verstappen BREAKS Silence on L…read more

Liam Lawson has received an outpouring of support following Red Bull’s decision to demote him back to Racing Bulls, with Jos Verstappen among those voicing encouragement for the young driver.

The announcement came on Thursday morning, confirming that Lawson would return to the junior team starting from the Japanese Grand Prix, while Yuki Tsunoda has been promoted to partner Max Verstappen. The decision marks the shortest stint in Red Bull’s history for any of its former drivers, with Lawson lasting just two races before being replaced.

Why Did Red Bull Drop Lawson?

Despite failing to score points or progress past Q1 in either race, including qualifying last in China, Red Bull has maintained that performance was not the main reason for the swap. Instead, the team has emphasized its need for Tsunoda’s experience to help develop the RB21, which has shown significant weaknesses in the opening rounds of the 2025 season.

Even three-time world champion Max Verstappen has expressed frustrations with the car, pointing out handling issues and a lack of stability. While Verstappen has still managed to qualify and finish inside the top four, Lawson found it especially difficult to extract performance from the RB21, struggling with the car’s unpredictable nature.

Red Bull’s decision has sparked debate among F1 fans, with some believing the team was too quick to replace Lawson, while others acknowledge the need for a more experienced driver to assist with car development at this crucial stage of the season.

Jos Verstappen Publicly Backs Lawson

Despite his abrupt exit, Lawson has been met with a wave of support, including from Jos Verstappen, who has always been vocal about young drivers getting fair opportunities in F1.

In response to Racing Bulls’ official Instagram post welcoming Lawson back to the team, Jos Verstappen commented:

“I really hope you go and do a fantastic job. He deserves to be in F1.”

His words reflect the sentiment of many fans who believe Lawson still has a bright future in Formula 1. While his Red Bull stint was brief, his return to Racing Bulls presents an opportunity to regain momentum and prove that he belongs on the grid long-term.

With mid-season driver swaps being a well-known strategy for Red Bull’s management, there is always a chance Lawson could find his way back into the main team but for now, he must focus on delivering strong performances with Racing Bulls and keeping his F1 dream alive.
