Max Verstappen Suspended After Lewis Hamilton D…Read more

In a shocking turn of events ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, Formula 1 championship leader Max Verstappen has been suspended by the FIA following a dramatic on-track incident involving seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.

The clash occurred during the final laps of last weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix, where Verstappen and Hamilton were fiercely battling for second place. As Hamilton attempted an overtaking move on the inside of Turn 3, Verstappen closed the gap aggressively, resulting in contact that sent both drivers into the barriers. While Hamilton managed to rejoin and finish the race, Verstappen was forced to retire due to damage.

Following a thorough investigation, FIA stewards ruled that Verstappen was “predominantly at fault” for causing a collision that endangered both drivers and breached the sport’s code of conduct. As a result, he has been handed a one-race suspension and will miss the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix.

Red Bull Racing expressed disappointment in the decision, with Team Principal Christian Horner calling it “harsh and politically motivated.” In contrast, Mercedes welcomed the ruling, with Team Principal Toto Wolff stating it “sets an important precedent for safety and fair racing.”

The suspension has major implications for the championship battle, as Verstappen leads by just 12 points over Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. With Verstappen sidelined, reserve driver Liam Lawson is expected to step in for the race in Montreal.

Hamilton, who finished fourth in Monaco after the incident, declined to comment directly on the penalty but emphasized the importance of “mutual respect on the track.”

All eyes now turn to Montreal, where tensions are expected to remain high as the title race continues—without one of its key contenders.
