Max Verstappen’s race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, has turned down offers from McLaren and Ferrari, reaffirming his commitment to Red Bull Racing. Lambiase, who has been an integral part of Verstappen’s success since the Dutch driver joined Red Bull in 2015, continues to remain loyal to the team, despite significant interest from rival teams.

According to sources, McLaren made a strong attempt to lure Lambiase away from Red Bull. The Woking-based team, which has been on a resurgence in recent seasons, identified Lambiase as a key target to strengthen their engineering team. However, despite their efforts, Lambiase declined the offer, opting to stay with the team where he has built a formidable partnership with Verstappen.

Ferrari, too, reportedly showed interest in Lambiase. Italian media outlets have speculated that the Scuderia sought to bring him on board, particularly with an eye on their future plans that include the anticipated arrival of Lewis Hamilton in 2025. Had Lambiase accepted Ferrari’s offer, he could have potentially become the race engineer for the seven-time world champion during Hamilton’s Ferrari stint. Nonetheless, Lambiase chose to ignore this opportunity and stay at Red Bull, where he remains committed to their ongoing success.

Lambiase’s career trajectory has seen him rise from his early days at Jordan, Midland, and Force India to becoming a pivotal figure at Red Bull. His engineering acumen and strategic insights have played a crucial role in Red Bull’s dominance in recent years. Verstappen, who has consistently praised Lambiase for his calm and calculated approach during races, shares a strong working relationship with him, which has undoubtedly influenced Lambiase’s decision to remain with the team.

This decision comes at a time when Red Bull has been dealing with several high-profile departures from its technical staff. Most notably, Jonathan Wheatley, the team’s long-serving sporting director, is set to leave Red Bull to take up a new role as Audi’s team principal. Wheatley’s departure marks a significant change in the team’s leadership structure, as he has been a key figure in Red Bull’s operations for many years.

Another major loss for Red Bull is the impending exit of Adrian Newey, the legendary car designer whose contributions have been instrumental in Red Bull’s championship successes. Newey’s departure has been a major talking point in the paddock, given his status as one of the most influential figures in Formula 1 engineering. Additionally, Rob Marshall, another prominent Red Bull engineer, has already made the switch to McLaren, further adding to the list of significant exits from the team.

McLaren’s CEO, Zak Brown, recently made headlines by cheekily claiming that he had been receiving multiple CVs from Red Bull staff, a clear indication of the competitive nature of the engineering talent pool in Formula 1. McLaren, eager to continue its upward trajectory, has been proactive in bolstering its engineering team, and Lambiase was a prime target for them. However, despite these overtures, Red Bull has managed to retain some of its most crucial personnel.

Alongside Lambiase, several key figures within Red Bull’s technical department have also signed new contracts, reinforcing the team’s efforts to maintain stability despite the ongoing staff changes. Engineers Paul Monaghan and Ben Waterhouse, head of aerodynamics Enrico Balbo, and technical director Pierre Wache are among those who have committed their futures to the team. These renewals are a testament to Red Bull’s ability to retain top talent, even as other teams attempt to poach their staff.

Lambiase’s decision to stay with Red Bull, rather than pursue a potential collaboration with Hamilton at Ferrari, reflects his deep-rooted loyalty to the team and his desire to continue working alongside Verstappen. Their partnership has yielded remarkable success, and with Red Bull still a dominant force in Formula 1, Lambiase clearly sees more victories on the horizon.

As Red Bull navigates this period of transition, retaining key personnel like Lambiase will be critical to maintaining their competitive edge. Despite the challenges posed by the departure of influential figures like Wheatley, Newey, and Marshall, Red Bull remains focused on staying at the forefront of Formula 1, and Lambiase’s commitment to the team is a significant boost in that endeavor.

For now, Lambiase will continue to be Verstappen’s trusted voice on the radio, guiding the Dutch driver through the highs and lows of racing as they both aim to further solidify Red Bull’s position at the top of the sport. The decision to stay at Red Bull not only underscores Lambiase’s confidence in the team’s future but also highlights the enduring appeal of working within one of the most successful outfits in modern Formula 1 history.
