Breaking News: Toto Wolff Admits Concerns Over Verstappen-like Departure Ahead…read more

Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff has revealed fears of losing Lewis Hamilton in a manner reminiscent of Red Bull’s handling of Max Verstappen’s rumored exit threats. The seven-time world champion’s recent move to Ferrari marks the end of a historic partnership with Mercedes, one that Wolff admits he hoped to extend.

Hamilton’s departure, confirmed late last year, came after months of speculation about his future. Wolff has now disclosed that the team worked tirelessly to convince Hamilton to stay, aware of the challenges posed by replacing a driver of his caliber.

Speaking to reporters, Wolff likened Hamilton’s situation to Red Bull’s delicate handling of Verstappen, who has repeatedly tied his future to key figures like Helmut Marko.

>“We’ve seen how important it is to keep a star driver like Max happy at Red Bull, and I feared we might face a similar situation with Lewis. Losing him was always going to be a risk, but we wanted to ensure he left on good terms if that was his decision,” Wolff explained.

Hamilton’s departure ends a remarkable 11-year tenure with Mercedes, during which he secured six of his seven world championships. While the move to Ferrari signals a new chapter for Hamilton, it also leaves a significant void at Mercedes.

George Russell is now set to take on the role of team leader, with rookie driver Frederik Vesti stepping up to the main team. Wolff has expressed confidence in their abilities but acknowledged the challenges ahead.

Wolff emphasized that Mercedes is focused on the future and rebuilding for a championship push. The team has already introduced new personnel and technological upgrades aimed at regaining dominance in Formula 1.

“We’ll miss Lewis, but our focus is on making Mercedes competitive again. Change is part of the sport, and we’re determined to write the next chapter of success,” Wolff said.

Meanwhile, Hamilton is set to debut with Ferrari later this month in a private test at Fiorano, where he will begin acclimating to his new team. The move has generated immense excitement among fans, with many eager to see if Hamilton can bring Ferrari back to championship glory.

As the 2025 season approaches, the spotlight will be on both Hamilton and Mercedes as they navigate this pivotal transition in Formula 1 history.
