Verstappen Linked to Aston Martin in £1bn Speculation

Aston Martin has reportedly made bold claims suggesting that Max Verstappen, the reigning four-time Formula 1 world champion, could join their team in the near future. Despite being contracted to Red Bull Racing until 2028, rumors persist about Verstappen’s potential switch, with the latest reports sparking intense speculation in the F1 community.

In 2024, Verstappen was previously linked to a surprising move to Mercedes but chose to stay loyal to Red Bull. However, recent developments indicate that Aston Martin may now be in the mix to secure his services. According to a report by Mail Sport, Aston Martin’s managing director of commercial and marketing, Jefferson Slack, has pitched to sponsors and investors that Verstappen “will join” the Silverstone-based team. This assertion is reportedly based more on aspiration than confirmed negotiations.

The potential move is said to hinge on the arrival of legendary F1 designer Adrian Newey, who is set to join Aston Martin in March 2025 following his departure from Red Bull. Reports suggest that Verstappen could be lured by a staggering £1 billion package, which includes signing bonuses and equity in the team, effectively securing his F1 career under Aston Martin’s banner.

Aston Martin, however, has strongly denied the claims. A spokesperson told GPFans: “Both Fernando [Alonso] and Lance [Stroll] have contracts for 2025 and 2026, as per the announcements last year. The team categorically denies the claims made in the story.”

Despite this, the report hints that Verstappen’s camp is keeping an open mind about his future. With the 2026 F1 regulation changes looming and Red Bull’s partnership with Ford for their engine development still evolving, Verstappen is reportedly considering his long-term options.

The prospect of Verstappen joining Aston Martin would undoubtedly shake up the F1 grid, given the team’s recent rise in competitiveness. However, the move remains speculative, and no official discussions between Verstappen and Aston Martin have been confirmed.

As things stand, Verstappen remains committed to Red Bull, where he has achieved immense success. Whether Aston Martin’s ambitious claims will materialize into reality or remain a pipe dream remains to be seen.
