Eddie Jordan Urges Ferrari to Terminate Lewis Hamilton’s Contract Following Disappointing………read more
Former F1 team owner Eddie Jordan has made bold comments regarding Lewis Hamilton’s future in Formula 1, urging Ferrari to reconsider their decision to bring the seven-time world champion on board. Jordan’s remarks come after a challenging 2024 season for Hamilton, during which the veteran driver expressed doubts about his speed and performance, raising questions about his confidence.
Hamilton’s move to Ferrari in early 2024 was a shocking and historic decision. In February of that year, the British driver opted out of a contract extension with Mercedes to fulfill a childhood dream of racing for the Italian team. This move also came amid Mercedes’ decline following their dominance between 2014 and 2021, which led Hamilton to seek a fresh challenge in the latter stages of his illustrious career. In addition to his desire to drive for Ferrari, the financial incentives reportedly played a significant role in his decision to make the switch.
However, the 39-year-old’s time with Ferrari has been far from smooth sailing. Despite his remarkable career, Hamilton’s performance in 2024 has been far below expectations. The season was marked by struggles with pace and consistency, as Hamilton faced repeated challenges in qualifying and racing, often being outpaced by his teammate, George Russell. At one point during the season, Hamilton admitted that he didn’t feel “fast enough anymore,” which raised concerns about his self-confidence and the state of his career.
Jordan, a long-time observer of the sport and former team owner of Jordan Grand Prix, wasted no time in commenting on Hamilton’s performance and his potential future with Ferrari. Reflecting on Hamilton’s admission of not being fast enough, Jordan warned that such a lack of confidence was a major red flag. He suggested that Ferrari should seriously consider cutting ties with the driver, stating that if Hamilton was no longer fully committed and self-assured in his abilities, it could jeopardize both his future and the team’s performance.
“If I were Ferrari and I heard Lewis say he’s not fast enough anymore, I’d say close the book and find a way out,” Jordan said. “If you don’t believe 100 percent, you’re f**ked.”
The ex-team owner went on to suggest that Hamilton should consider retirement if he felt his best days were behind him, rather than continue in a sport where confidence and performance are crucial. “A little message to you, Lewis: always remember in life, you’ve got your music, your fashion, and all sorts of other things. Always think about the best exit. And this is the time to take the money off the table and go,” Jordan added.
Despite a difficult 2024 season, Hamilton’s career has been marked by incredible successes, including his seven world championships and over 100 race victories. However, as his 40th birthday looms, questions about his future in F1 are inevitable. His performance this season was far from his usual high standards, and his struggles were compounded by the underperformance of his Ferrari car, the SF24. The team was unable to match the pace of Red Bull, and while Ferrari showed improvement later in the year, Hamilton’s results were often inconsistent.
Hamilton’s difficult season was highlighted by a series of disappointing results, particularly in the latter part of the year. He went over 900 days without a victory before finally winning the British Grand Prix in 2024, followed by a victory at the Belgian GP, thanks to his teammate George Russell’s disqualification. These wins, however, did little to mask the overall frustration Hamilton seemed to feel as the season drew to a close.
With Hamilton’s confidence wavering, Jordan’s words seem to suggest that the driver may need to reflect on his future and consider stepping away while he still has his legacy intact. The suggestion that Ferrari could terminate his contract adds to the growing pressure on the seven-time world champion, as both he and the team struggle to recapture the glory they once dreamed of.
As Hamilton faces an uncertain future, it remains to be seen whether he will heed Jordan’s advice and retire from the sport, or if he will continue to fight for success in the final years of his remarkable F1 career. The coming months will be pivotal for both Hamilton and Ferrari, as they evaluate their options for the future.
