F1 champion announced as part of Cadillac driver lineup

Cadillac has revealed that a Formula 1 world champion will be joining its driver lineup ahead of their entry into the sport in 2026. The American brand has partnered with Ferrari to provide power units and gearboxes for their debut season, but they have ambitious plans to develop their own engines by the end of the decade.

The addition of Cadillac as the 11th team on the F1 grid also creates two additional seats for drivers. Team executive Mario Andretti has stated that the team is looking for a mix of talent, with an emphasis on bringing in a young American driver as well as a veteran to form a strong duo. This move comes as Cadillac intensifies its focus on establishing itself in various motorsport sectors beyond Formula 1, notably in endurance racing.

Cadillac’s involvement in motorsport is not limited to F1, as the brand has a significant presence in the World Endurance Championship (WEC). This year, they are set to make their debut in the series with Team Jota Cadillac. For the 2025 season, Cadillac has announced an impressive lineup, with 2009 F1 World Champion Jenson Button joining forces with Earl Bamber and Sebastien Bourdais. The trio will compete in the Cadillac V-Series.R LMDh car, showcasing their versatility and ambition within motorsport.

In addition to the car, Cadillac will also field a second entry in the 2025 WEC season. The car will feature drivers Alex Lynn, Will Stevens, and Norman Nato. Their first race together will be the 10-hour Qatar 1812Km event, scheduled to take place on February 28.

The process of selecting these driver pairings was approached with careful consideration. Dieter Gass, team principal at Jota, explained that while driver character and personality are crucial to fostering a cohesive team, the driving styles and preferences of each driver were also key factors in determining the right combinations for each car. The team made sure to take their time with this decision-making process, and they are eager to see how the driver trios perform in the upcoming races in Qatar and beyond.

Cadillac’s expansion into both F1 and WEC demonstrates their commitment to pushing the boundaries of motorsport and creating competitive teams with diverse and accomplished driver lineups. As the brand prepares for its F1 debut and continues its journey in endurance racing, all eyes will be on their performance and the strategies they employ in both high-profile champ

ionships.
