Ferrari has issued a strategic directive following Lewis Hamilton’s challenging start to the 2025 Formula 1 season. Since his high-profile move from Mercedes, the seven-time world champion has yet to finish higher than fifth, trailing behind teammate Charles Leclerc, who has secured multiple podiums.
Team principal Fred Vasseur has publicly defended Hamilton, emphasizing the team’s commitment to resolving car balance and tyre performance issues. Vasseur stated, “We are 2,000 per cent behind him,” dismissing media criticism and highlighting Hamilton’s potential based on recent performances.
Despite the support, Ferrari is reportedly considering implementing team orders to optimize their championship prospects. CEO Benedetto Vigna acknowledged the potential for such measures, expressing confidence in the partnership between Hamilton and Leclerc. “We aim to compete at the top… with a reinforced team and a clear objective: to win,” Vigna said.
Hamilton has admitted to the challenges of adapting to Ferrari’s SF-25, citing difficulties with understeer and high tyre degradation. He remains determined to find solutions, planning to analyze data in Maranello to align strategies with Leclerc.
As the season progresses, Ferrari’s strategic decisions and Hamilton’s adaptation will be crucial in their pursuit of success. The upcoming Miami Grand Prix on May 4 presents an opportunity for Hamilton to secure his first podium with the Scuderia.
