FIA Issues Late Penalty Verdict for TWO F1 Stars After Miami Grand Prix

In a dramatic post-race twist, the FIA has handed out penalties to two Formula 1 drivers following the Miami Grand Prix, altering the race’s final standings hours after the checkered flag.

The penalties, confirmed in a late-night statement from the FIA, were issued to Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Mercedes’ George Russell for separate infractions during the final stages of the race.

Leclerc was hit with a five-second time penalty for leaving the track and gaining a lasting advantage while battling with McLaren’s Oscar Piastri. The decision drops the Monegasque driver from P4 to P6 in the final classification.

Russell, meanwhile, received a 10-second penalty for a Safety Car restart infringement, which stewards determined gave him an unfair advantage over competitors behind him. This demotion sees Russell fall out of the points entirely, from P8 to P11.

The FIA’s announcement has sparked frustration among fans and teams alike, especially given the delay in issuing the decisions. Both Ferrari and Mercedes expressed concern over the timing and transparency of the rulings.

This latest development caps off a chaotic and controversy-filled Miami Grand Prix weekend, with final positions only locked in several hours after the race concluded.
