Seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton has been handed a major confidence boost ahead of his anticipated move to Ferrari. The British racing icon, who has spent an illustrious 12-season career with Mercedes, is set to close this chapter of his career following the upcoming Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. As he prepares for the 2025 season, Hamilton’s transition to Ferrari marks the beginning of an exciting new challenge at the Scuderia.

For much of the 2024 season, Hamilton’s future at Mercedes had been shrouded in uncertainty. While he had initially hoped for a fairytale ending to his time with the Silver Arrows, his recent struggles on track have dampened his confidence. Despite clinching two unexpected victories earlier in the season—at Silverstone and Spa—Hamilton has faced mounting challenges, particularly after the summer break. A second-place finish in Las Vegas was the only high point during what has been a generally bleak second half of the season for the 39-year-old driver.

His performance in Qatar highlighted the ongoing difficulties he has faced in recent months. A disappointing 12th-place finish in Qatar served as a stark reminder of the struggles Hamilton has had in recent years at Mercedes. The team’s inability to produce a competitive car has undoubtedly contributed to his frustrations, and with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix serving as the season finale, Hamilton’s confidence appears to be at an all-time low.

This disheartening period for Hamilton was made even more difficult by recent remarks from Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff. Wolff suggested that Hamilton’s performance had started to show signs of decline, a comment that raised eyebrows within the motorsport community. However, Wolff later clarified his statement, seeking to temper the damage caused by his words. Nonetheless, the remark has weighed on Hamilton’s mindset as he heads into the final races with Mercedes, feeling the pressure of expectations and public scrutiny.

Despite this challenging situation, Hamilton’s next chapter in Formula 1 promises new beginnings and the opportunity for redemption. His move to Ferrari is set to rejuvenate his career, with a fresh environment offering a chance to reignite the fire that has driven him to seven World Championships. As Hamilton contemplates this shift, he has received a powerful vote of confidence from Ferrari’s team principal, Fred Vasseur.

Speaking during the Qatar Grand Prix, Vasseur expressed unwavering belief in Hamilton’s abilities, dismissing any concerns regarding his recent dip in form. Vasseur was asked whether he had any regrets about signing Hamilton for the 2025 season, especially considering Hamilton’s struggles in 2024. The Ferrari boss quickly shot down any doubts, stating, “Not at all. Look at the 50 laps he did in Las Vegas where he started 10th and finished second, on the gearbox of [George] Russell. I am not worried at all.”

Vasseur’s words of encouragement provide a significant boost to Hamilton as he faces the challenges ahead
