Breaking news:Lewis Hamilton gets support from $10m worth F1 driver after rough Mercedes final year…. readmore
Kick Sauber F1 Nico Hulkenberg believed that Lewis Hamilton had a “weak moment” during his final year with Mercedes when the Brit said that he was not fast anymore. The seven-time F1 world champion shocked the world of motorsports when he announced that he would leave the German team at the end of the 2024 season to move to Ferrari.
The 40-year-old had been associated with the German brand for over a decade since he joined the Brackley-based outfit in 2013. However, his final year with the team did not go as anticipated. He struggled alongside his teammate George Russell in qualifying and races despite winning two races in Silverstone and Spa.
Speaking with RacingNews365, Nico Hulkenberg, who has a net worth of $10 million (as per Celebrity Net Worth), extended his support to Lewis Hamilton and mentioned that the latter was disappointed after his qualifying in Qatar. He said:
“It is just about timing, and I think he had a weak moment to be honest. He was disappointed after a poor qualifying, and obviously I don’t know the details [from Mercedes], but he was up against George who is a very fast and complete driver already.
“He’s put in some really strong performances and has good momentum, so as a driver, even when you are as experienced as Lewis, it can get to you and annoy you as well. We all want to challenge and beat our team-mates, but you saw in Las Vegas how good Lewis is, he came from P10 to [P2] and you should never discount him. He’s still going great.”
Lewis Hamilton ultimately finished behind George Russell in the Driver’s Standings in P7 and trailed him by 22 points.
Mercedes F1 director rubbished claims of Lewis Hamilton giving up in 2024
Mercedes trackside engineering director Andrew Shovlin stated that he did not believe the rumors that Lewis Hamilton gave up in the final few races of the 2024 season.
Speaking with RacingNews365, Shovlin said:
It was definitely not a different Lewis, you saw the same Lewis, the same drive, the same determination, but the results haven’t been there, and that no doubt affecting how happy we all are.”
Lewis Hamilton only managed to win two races in the last three years and joined Ferrari in 2025 on a multi-year deal in his quest for the elusive eighth world championship.
The British driver will start his association with the Italian team in January and embed himself with them by doing multiple test sessions before the official pre-season testing in Bahrain in late February
