McLaren Chief Confirms Talks Over Max Verstappen Signing Following…read more
In a stunning development that could shake up the Formula 1 grid, McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown has confirmed that preliminary talks have taken place regarding a potential move for reigning World Champion Max Verstappen.
Speaking to reporters following the Miami Grand Prix, Brown acknowledged that McLaren has held informal discussions amid growing speculation about Verstappen’s future with Red Bull Racing. “Of course, when a driver of Max’s caliber becomes even remotely available, every top team is going to be interested,” Brown stated. “We’ve had exploratory conversations, but nothing is formal at this stage.
The revelation comes as rumors swirl around unrest within Red Bull’s camp, particularly in light of recent internal conflicts and the ongoing investigation into team principal Christian Horner. While Verstappen remains under contract through 2028, reports suggest the Dutch driver has performance-related exit clauses that could allow an early departure.
McLaren, currently riding a resurgence with drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, has not ruled out a high-profile addition. “We’re building something special at McLaren,” Brown added. “If Max sees that and wants to be part of it, we’d be ready to talk.”
Red Bull has yet to respond publicly to the comments, but the possibility of losing their star driver could spark a major shake-up across the paddock.
