  1. The ‘underestimated’ Mercedes theory for Lewis Hamilton as ‘sad’ Ferrari concern raised

Damon Hill, the 1996 World Champion, has expressed his thoughts on Lewis Hamilton’s decision to leave Mercedes for Ferrari in 2025.

Hill wonders if Hamilton underestimated Mercedes’ potential for a comeback, given their recent resurgence in form.

Hamilton’s departure from Mercedes was announced before the 2024 season, following a dominant period by Red Bull and Max Verstappen, who won the 2022 and 2023 titles. However, Mercedes has since returned to form, winning three of the last four races, including Hamilton’s victories at Silverstone and Spa.

Hill suggests that Hamilton may have thought Mercedes had reached their peak when he made the decision to leave, but their recent performance has shown otherwise.

Hill believes that Mercedes could still be competitive, leaving him to question whether Hamilton made the right decision in leaving the team.

“It’s sad if Ferrari are not competitive,” Hill added, highlighting the potential consequences of Hamilton’s move if Ferrari fails to deliver a competitive car.

Hill’s comments come as Hamilton prepares to leave Mercedes after a highly successful period, which has seen him win seven World Championships with the team.
