Official verdict on Perez Red Bull move announced

Sergio Perez’s future with Red Bull remains uncertain, but the Mexican driver received a boost at the FIA awards amid mounting speculation about his role within the team.

Despite extending his contract, Perez’s 2024 season has been plagued by poor performances.

While he started the year with a few podium finishes, his form declined drastically, resulting in several Q1 exits and a significant drop in points.

This slump contributed to Red Bull’s disappointing third-place finish in the Constructors’ Championship.

By the end of the season, Perez trailed his teammate and world champion Max Verstappen by a staggering 285 points.

Red Bull’s fall in the standings has fueled speculation about Perez’s future, even though he is contracted for 2025.

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko had previously stated that a decision on Perez’s role would be made after the Abu Dhabi season finale, but no official announcement has been made yet.

Amid this uncertainty, Perez was recognized at the FIA’s annual prize-giving ceremony held in Rwanda, where F1’s stars gathered to celebrate the season’s achievements.

Alongside the drivers’ and constructors’ trophies, the prestigious ‘Action of the Year’ award was presented.

Perez won the honor for his impressive double overtake during the sprint race at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

The award-winning move saw Perez take advantage of a battle between Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso for third place.

With precision and timing, he swept past both drivers on the inside, a maneuver that captured 60% of the public vote.

He edged out Oscar Piastri and Alex Albon, who were also nominated for their standout moments during the season.

Perez expressed his gratitude on Instagram, writing, “That was really an exciting race! Thanks to all for voting!”

The award highlights one of the few bright spots in an otherwise challenging year for the Mexican driver.

While this recognition may provide a morale boost, questions about his place at Red Bull persist.

The team’s performance struggles and Verstappen’s dominance have intensified scrutiny on Perez, making his future a key topic of interest as Red Bull prepares for the 2025 season.
