Oscar Piastri Dismisses Concerns Over Red Bull’s Wing: “We’ll Stay Competitive All Year”
April 10, 2025
Melbourne, Australia – McLaren’s rising star Oscar Piastri has downplayed the ongoing discussions surrounding Red Bull’s front wing design, asserting that his team remains confident in their competitiveness for the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Red Bull has recently come under scrutiny after a technical clampdown by the FIA aimed at clarifying regulations related to front wing flexibility and aerodynamic performance. The governing body’s intervention has sparked debate in the paddock, with rival teams closely watching for potential performance impacts on Red Bull’s dominant package.
However, Piastri is not getting caught up in the noise.
In an interview ahead of this weekend’s Chinese Grand Prix, the Australian driver was asked whether the FIA’s clampdown on Red Bull’s front wing could create an opportunity for McLaren and others to gain ground.
“I’m not too focused on what’s going on with other teams,” Piastri responded. “We’ve been building momentum from the start of the season, and I truly believe we’ll stay competitive all year regardless of what’s happening elsewhere.”
McLaren has enjoyed a solid start to the 2025 campaign, with Piastri showing consistent pace and putting in strong performances across the opening rounds. The team’s recent upgrades have helped close the gap to the front-runners, and there is a growing sense of confidence within the Woking-based squad.
Piastri emphasized that McLaren’s success depends more on internal progress than on external factors.
“We’re focusing on our own development, execution on race weekends, and making the most of our opportunities,” he added. “There’s always talk about regulation changes and technical directives, but at the end of the day, it’s about doing the best job with what you’ve got. We’re in a good place, and I think we’ll only get stronger as the season progresses.”
Team principal Andrea Stella echoed Piastri’s sentiments, noting that while the team is keeping a close eye on regulatory developments, their primary focus remains on consistent performance and reliability.
As Formula 1 heads into a critical stretch of back-to-back races in Asia and Europe, McLaren will be hoping to translate their confidence into podium finishes and challenge the established frontrunners.
Whether or not the FIA’s clampdown will significantly impact Red Bull’s performance remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: Oscar Piastri and McLaren aren’t relying on others to falter—they’re determined to fight their way to the front.
