Red Bull confirm Perez REPLACEMENT with official team statement
Red Bull Racing has announced they will part ways with Sergio Perez after four seasons, following a challenging 2024 Formula 1 campaign.
While the team celebrated Max Verstappen clinching his fourth drivers’ championship, they faced disappointment in the constructors’ championship, finishing third and trailing 77 points behind champions McLaren.
Perez’s performance was a key factor in Red Bull’s decline in the standings.
The Mexican driver struggled throughout the season, failing to secure a podium finish after the Chinese Grand Prix in April.
His last top-five finish came in May at the Miami Grand Prix.
Ultimately, he ended the season 285 points behind Verstappen, contributing to the team’s decision to move on from him despite having extended his contract just six months earlier.
Perez confirmed his departure via social media, with Red Bull releasing a follow-up statement expressing gratitude for his contributions.
The statement, titled “Gracias por todo Checo” (“Thank you for everything, Checo”), acknowledged the mutual decision to part ways for the 2025 season.
The team has yet to announce who will replace Perez.
Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda, both currently driving for VCARB (Red Bull’s sister team), are reportedly the frontrunners.
Team principal Christian Horner confirmed that both are being considered as potential candidates.
Should either be promoted, it could open a spot on the F1 grid for Formula 2 driver Isack Hadjar, offering an exciting opportunity for the young talent.
Perez’s departure marks a significant change for Red Bull as they aim to rebound in 2025 and reclaim their position at the top of the constructors’ standings.
