BREAKING: Red Bull F1 Boss Helmut Marko Breaks Silence Over Yuki Tsunoda’s Pe…read more
Red Bull’s Helmut Marko has raised concerns about Yuki Tsunoda’s ability to deliver when it matters most, despite the Japanese driver showing improvement since joining the senior team earlier this season.
Tsunoda was promoted to Red Bull after just two races in 2025, replacing Liam Lawson, who returned to Racing Bulls. While Tsunoda has looked more confident than Lawson in the RB21, his performances have been inconsistent.
At the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Tsunoda impressed in qualifying by securing eighth Red Bull’s first double top-eight Saturday result since the 2024 Azerbaijan GP. However, his race ended on the first lap following a collision with Pierre Gasly.
Marko acknowledged Tsunoda’s potential but stressed that the 24-year-old needs to maintain his performance under pressure.
“In free practice, when the stakes are lower, he’s still a couple of tenths off,” Marko told the Media. “He tends to overdrive in qualifying. He’s improving, but he needs to step up when it counts most.”
Tsunoda has only managed to score two points from his three starts with Red Bull and has yet to provide meaningful support to Max Verstappen as the team trails McLaren by 99 points in the constructors’ standings.
Looking ahead, Tsunoda hopes to bounce back at the Miami Grand Prix the same track where he finished seventh in 2024 while driving for Racing Bulls. With Red Bull’s championship hopes hanging in the balance, Tsunoda’s ability to deliver consistent results will be crucial.
