Red Bull Insider Predicts Max Verstappen Will Win 2025 Title and Retire

A former close team member of Max Verstappen has stirred the Formula 1 community with a dramatic prediction regarding the Dutch driver’s future. Calum Nicholas, who worked as Verstappen’s mechanic for several years, has claimed that not only will Verstappen win the 2025 Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship, but he will also retire from the sport at the end of the season.

So far, the 2025 campaign has been far from easy for Verstappen. After dominating the sport in recent years, winning four consecutive world titles, he has found himself struggling to keep up with the pace-setting McLaren duo of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. Out of the first nine races this season, Verstappen has only taken victory in two. McLaren, on the other hand, have been consistently strong, with Piastri and Norris frequently finishing at the front.

The strong performance from McLaren has left Verstappen trailing by 49 points in the Drivers’ Championship standings, a gap that many consider nearly insurmountable. Red Bull’s own motorsport advisor, Helmut Marko, recently admitted publicly that the team’s hopes of securing either championship this year were fading fast, casting further doubt on Verstappen’s chances of retaining his title.

However, despite the challenges, Calum Nicholas remains firm in his belief that Verstappen is far from done. Now serving as a Red Bull ambassador, Nicholas shared his thoughts during a casual golf round with Lucas Stewart, which was captured in a recent YouTube video. When asked how many titles Verstappen will finish his career with, Nicholas didn’t hesitate to say that this would be his fifth—and final—championship season.

Nicholas’s comments have sparked a flurry of speculation, particularly because Verstappen is still relatively young for a Formula 1 driver and has several years left on his Red Bull contract. His suggestion that the Dutchman will retire after 2025 has added a surprising twist to what has already been a dramatic and unpredictable season.

While Verstappen has not publicly spoken about retirement, he has hinted in recent years about the emotional and physical toll that F1’s demanding schedule takes on drivers. He has also voiced interest in pursuing other racing formats in the future, such as endurance racing and sim racing, where he’s known to be highly active during his spare time.

If Nicholas’s prediction comes true, Verstappen would walk away from the sport with five world titles to his name, matching the tally of legendary driver Juan Manuel Fangio and solidifying his place among F1’s all-time greats. With much of the 2025 season still left to play out, all eyes will be on Verstappen to see if he can overturn the odds once more—and whether he’ll truly walk away after doing so.
