Red Bull Considers Ricciardo for a Return Amid Driver Swap Speculation

As speculation continues over a potential driver swap between Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson, Red Bull could have another reason to bring back a familiar face if they feel the need to make changes. While many drivers who are currently outside of Formula 1 have seen their reputation rise despite not competing, Lawson’s recent performances have placed him in a different category.

After replacing Daniel Ricciardo at Racing Bulls in late 2024, Lawson managed to outperform Tsunoda and secure a promotion to Red Bull as Max Verstappen’s teammate for the 2025 season. However, as Red Bull continues to evaluate its options, the possibility of Ricciardo returning to the senior team is gaining traction.

One of the main reasons Ricciardo could be the ideal candidate is his familiarity with the Red Bull system and the RB21’s characteristics. Unlike a new driver who would require time to adapt, Ricciardo already understands how the team operates and could quickly integrate without a steep learning curve. Additionally, his relationship with Verstappen has always been positive, avoiding any potential personality clashes that could disrupt the team dynamic.

For Red Bull, the priority remains finding the best possible driver to complement Verstappen and extract maximum performance from the car. Ricciardo, with his experience and previous success with the team, presents a strong case. While some within Red Bull’s leadership, particularly Christian Horner and Helmut Marko, may have to put past decisions behind them, bringing Ricciardo back could be a logical solution to their ongoing issue of securing a reliable second driver.

A return for Ricciardo would not only provide stability but also eliminate the uncertainty surrounding the No. 2 seat, which has been a recurring challenge for the team. If Red Bull is willing to make the call, persuading Ricciardo to return might not be too difficult—after all, the Australian has always had a strong connection with the team and remains a fan favorite.

Ultimately, while Red Bull has other options to consider, Ricciardo stands out as a proven choice, and reuniting with him could resolve their driver dilemma in a way that benefits both the team and the driver.
