Red Bull Issues Official Statement on Verstappen’s Absence, Confirms Suspension from British Grand Prix

Red Bull Racing has officially confirmed that reigning Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen will not be participating in the 2025 British Grand Prix at Silverstone. In a formal statement released by the team, it was announced that Verstappen has received a one-race suspension following an accumulation of penalty points on his FIA Super Licence, in line with the governing body’s regulations.

According to the statement, Verstappen’s suspension is the result of a series of recent on-track incidents that led to disciplinary action by race stewards. These included multiple infractions such as exceeding track limits, causing avoidable contact, and failing to adhere to race control directives. The points accrued from these violations have now surpassed the maximum threshold permitted within a 12-month period, thereby triggering an automatic suspension under FIA sporting rules.

“While we are disappointed that Max will not be taking part in this weekend’s Grand Prix at Silverstone, we fully respect the decision made by the FIA,” Red Bull stated. “Max remains an integral part of our team, and we stand behind him as he serves this penalty. Our focus now shifts to preparing for the race weekend and making the necessary adjustments to our strategy.”

The team acknowledged the significance of the British Grand Prix, describing it as one of the most iconic and challenging races on the Formula 1 calendar, and expressed regret that Verstappen—currently leading the Drivers’ Championship—will be unable to compete at such a critical stage in the season.

Verstappen also issued a personal response through Red Bull, expressing his disappointment while accepting the decision without contest.

“I’m obviously disappointed to miss Silverstone,” he said. “It’s one of the most historic races with some of the best fans in the world. But I understand the rules and respect the decision. I’ll be fully behind the team this weekend and will use the time to regroup and return stronger at the next race.”

Red Bull has not yet announced who will replace Verstappen for the British Grand Prix, though speculation continues to build around reserve driver Liam Lawson as the leading candidate. The New Zealander has previous experience in Formula 1 and is closely involved with the team’s current operations, making him a logical choice for the temporary seat.

The suspension marks a rare and serious enforcement of driver conduct rules at the highest level of motorsport and serves as a reminder of the FIA’s commitment to ensuring safe and fair competition on the track.

Max Verstappen will serve his one-race suspension at Silverstone and will be eligible to return at the next round of the championship. In the meantime, all eyes will be on how Red Bull adapts to the unexpected change and how the title contenders respond to this sudden shake-up in the championship standings.

Additional details regarding Red Bull’s substitute driver and team strategy for the British Grand Prix are expected to be announced in the coming days.
