Jos Verstappen, former Formula 1 driver and father of reigning World Champion Max Verstappen, was reportedly involved in a car accident late Friday evening after attending a classic racing event in Monaco. The incident occurred near the Monte Carlo harbor area, just hours after the veteran Dutch racer had taken part in a historic F1 exhibition alongside several retired legends of the sport.
According to eyewitnesses, Jos was driving a vintage Aston Martin DB5 when the vehicle appeared to lose traction on a slippery curve. The car collided with a guardrail before coming to a stop. Emergency services were quick to respond, and Jos was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
Sources close to the Verstappen family confirmed that Jos sustained minor injuries and is in stable condition. “He’s doing well and is expected to be discharged soon,” a spokesperson for the family said. “We appreciate everyone’s concern and support.”
Max Verstappen, who is currently preparing for the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix, has not yet made a public statement. However, team Red Bull Racing has confirmed he is aware of the situation and has been in contact with his father.
Jos Verstappen, 52, had a notable F1 career during the 1990s and has played a pivotal role in mentoring his son Max, now one of the most dominant drivers on the grid.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, but early indications suggest that weather and road conditions may have played a part. No other vehicles were involved, and no pedestrians were injured.
