Red Bull star issues emotional statement ahead of confirmed…read more

A Red Bull driver has issued a heartfelt tribute to his colleagues ahead of his confirmed departure from the team. Red Bull, the 2023 Formula 1 Constructors’ Champions, faced significant challenges in 2024, unable to defend their title due to a turbulent season. Although Max Verstappen managed to recover from a mid-season slump and ultimately secured his fourth consecutive Drivers’ Championship, the same success was not mirrored by his teammate, Sergio Perez.

Perez, who had shown promise at the start of the year, endured a disappointing second half of the season, finishing eighth in the final standings. With only 49 points from his last 17 races, speculation has intensified that the Mexican driver’s time with Red Bull is nearing its end. His struggles on the track have raised questions about his future, with reports suggesting he could be replaced as early as 2025.

In addition to the driver-related turbulence, Red Bull also experienced significant personnel departures in 2024. The most notable of these was the resignation of Adrian Newey, the team’s legendary design chief. After 18 years at Red Bull, where he played a pivotal role in securing 13 world titles, Newey announced he would leave the team in April. His move sent shockwaves through the F1 community, especially when it was revealed that he would join Aston Martin for the upcoming season. Newey’s departure marks the end of an era for Red Bull, which had been built on his innovative designs and expertise.

Red Bull was also dealt another blow with the news that Sporting Director Jonathan Wheatley would be stepping down at the end of 2024. Wheatley, who had been with the team for several years, will take on a new challenge as the team principal of Sauber/Audi, beginning in July 2025. His exit adds to the growing list of high-profile departures within the organization, further complicating Red Bull’s efforts to rebuild and maintain its dominance in Formula 1.

As the team faces both on-track and off-track upheaval, the emotional tributes from departing personnel highlight the close-knit nature of the Red Bull team. Despite the challenges, both Verstappen and Perez have expressed gratitude for their experiences, with Perez’s heartfelt message underscoring his respect for the team’s hard work and success over the years.
