Red Bull star ruled OUT of race at Qatar Grand Prix
A Red Bull driver has been sidelined from the sprint race at the Qatar Grand Prix due to a dramatic failure.
Meanwhile, the focus has shifted to key battles, including the constructors’ championship and title races in Formula 2 and the 2024 F1 Academy.
While Max Verstappen secured the drivers’ title in Las Vegas the previous weekend, the competition for the constructors’ championship is intensifying between Ferrari and McLaren.
McLaren made a strong start at Lusail, with Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris achieving a 1-2 finish in Saturday’s sprint race.
In Formula 2, the championship battle remains fiercely contested.
Gabriel Bortoleto and Isack Hadjar are at the top of the standings, with Hadjar initially holding the upper hand during the sprint race.
However, a late spin dropped Hadjar to fourth place, allowing Ollie Bearman to take the lead.
Bortoleto, who finished sixth, has now closed the gap to just 2.5 points behind Hadjar heading into Sunday’s feature race.
The weekend proved challenging for other Red Bull juniors as well. Oliver Goethe, driving for MP Motorsport, had a disastrous sprint race.
The German driver was forced to retire on lap six due to smoke emerging from his car, which came to a halt in the gravel. The incident triggered a virtual safety car.
Goethe, who stepped up to Formula 2 during the Italian Grand Prix to replace Franco Colapinto, struggled to make an impact in Qatar.
The drama in Qatar continues to build as critical battles in multiple championships approach their conclusion.
