Swiss Police Investigate Alleged Assault at Schumacher Family Estate
Swiss authorities have launched an investigation into allegations that a racing driver sexually assaulted a member of Michael Schumacher’s private medical staff at the seven-time Formula 1 world champion’s residence in Gland, Switzerland. The reported incident is said to have taken place in 2019, according to Swiss-French newspaper 24heures.
The publication stated that police have formally charged an Australian racing driver in connection with the alleged assault. The man is believed to have been staying at the Schumacher property as a guest at the time and was reportedly a friend of Mick Schumacher, Michael’s son.
However, the report made clear that the Schumacher family is not involved in the criminal case. According to prosecutors, none of the family members were at home when the alleged event occurred and have not been accused of any wrongdoing. The family has also not issued any public comment on the matter, and their privacy continues to be respected.
The alleged victim, identified only as a woman in her thirties, was employed as part of the nursing and care team that has provided round-the-clock medical assistance to Schumacher since his serious head injury sustained in a skiing accident in 2013. The nurse filed a formal criminal complaint in January 2022, approximately two years after the alleged incident took place.
According to 24heures, investigators believe the event may have occurred following a social gathering at the property. The accused was reportedly residing in the main house during that period. The outlet added that the indictment was filed earlier this year, with a trial date scheduled for Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. in the Swiss court system.
Swiss police have confirmed that the case is under investigation but declined to provide additional details, citing ongoing legal proceedings and privacy laws. A spokesperson for the local authorities told reporters that “due process is being followed” and that no further statements would be made until the hearing concludes.
The news outlet GPFans also confirmed that it had reached out to Swiss police for an official statement but had not yet received a response.
Michael Schumacher, a seven-time Formula 1 world champion, suffered life-changing injuries after a skiing crash in the French Alps in December 2013. Since then, he has lived privately under continuous medical care at his family’s lakeside estate in Switzerland. The Schumacher family has maintained strict confidentiality about his condition, with only close associates and medical staff having access to him.
This case has naturally drawn attention due to the Schumacher family’s high profile, but Swiss authorities have emphasised that the investigation and potential trial are focused solely on the accused individual and the allegations made by the nurse. Legal experts in Switzerland have noted that such proceedings are typically closed to the public to protect the privacy of both the victim and the accused.
As of now, no verdict has been reached, and the case remains ongoing. The accused driver is presumed innocent until proven guilty under Swiss law.
