Max Verstappen Could Leave Red Bull as Internal Struggles Mount, Claims Ralf Schumacher

Ralf Schumacher has claimed that Max Verstappen is on the verge of leaving Red Bull Racing, stating that the team is beginning to unravel amid growing internal tensions and recent managerial decisions. Schumacher’s comments follow remarks made by Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s long-time advisor, who recently admitted that Verstappen is unhappy with the way the team is being run.

The latest controversy stems from Red Bull’s abrupt decision to replace Liam Lawson with Yuki Tsunoda after just two races in the 2025 Formula 1 season. The move has reportedly frustrated Verstappen, who was said to be displeased with how Lawson was treated. The Dutch driver even went as far as liking an Instagram post that described Christian Horner’s handling of the situation as ‘bullying.’

Schumacher, a former Formula 1 driver with Jordan, Williams, and Toyota, believes that Red Bull is barely holding together, with Verstappen being the only stabilizing force. Speaking to German publication Bild, Schumacher stated: “Red Bull is falling apart. Verstappen is keeping the business going with his performances. They have lost many top figures, and there are internal conflicts simmering beneath the surface. The fact that Verstappen is staying so calm in the midst of this turmoil is incredible.”

Red Bull’s dominance in Formula 1 has already started to show signs of weakening. Despite Verstappen securing his fourth consecutive Drivers’ Championship, the team failed to clinch the Constructors’ Championship in 2024. This marked a significant downturn in their supremacy, which has been further highlighted by growing competition from McLaren and Ferrari. Speculation about Red Bull’s decline has intensified, with many pointing fingers at the team’s management for failing to provide a stable environment.

The team has also suffered significant losses in personnel, with two key figures—legendary designer Adrian Newey and Rob Marshall—departing in recent months. Their exit has raised concerns about the long-term direction of the team, with many wondering whether Red Bull can maintain their dominance without such top-tier technical expertise.

Further intensifying the situation, Helmut Marko confirmed that Verstappen was not pleased with the decision to drop Lawson in favor of Tsunoda. Marko defended the move, claiming that it was necessary for the team’s long-term goals and would ultimately give Verstappen a stronger shot at another title. However, many observers believe this decision has only widened the rift between Verstappen and Red Bull’s leadership.

Schumacher is convinced that Verstappen will seek an exit from the team sooner rather than later. He suggested that Aston Martin would be an ideal destination for the Dutch driver, especially given that Adrian Newey has now joined the British team. Schumacher believes that Aston Martin would structure the team entirely around Verstappen, offering him the same level of priority that he currently enjoys at Red Bull.

“I don’t see Mercedes as an option,” Schumacher added, citing Toto Wolff’s preference for developing young driver Kimi Antonelli rather than bringing in an established champion like Verstappen.

With Red Bull facing increasing instability, Verstappen’s future remains uncertain. If the team’s struggles continue, his departure could become a serious possibility, sending shockwaves across the Formula 1 grid. All eyes will be on how Red Bull handles its internal conflicts and whether Verstappen will remain loyal to the team or explore new opportunities elsewhere.
