Some historic F1 machines have fetched record-breaking sums at prestigious auctions, drawing interest from collectors, motorsport fans, and investors alike.

One standout example is the 2003 Ferrari F2003-GA, driven by Michael Schumacher. It was sold for an astonishing $14.9 million at an RM Sotheby’s auction in Geneva in 2022. This made it the most expensive modern-era F1 car ever sold. The car helped Schumacher clinch his sixth world title and remains a symbol of Ferrari’s dominance in the early 2000s.

Another jaw-dropping sale was Juan Manuel Fangio’s 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196R, which went for $29.6 million in 2013. This legendary vehicle was crucial in securing Fangio’s second world championship and remains one of the most valuable F1 cars ever auctioned.

  • Other notable sales include Ayrton Senna’s 1993 McLaren MP4/8, which sold for over $4.3 million, and Lewis Hamilton’s 2010 McLaren MP4-25A, which brought in $6.6 million—the first Hamilton car ever sold at public auction.
