Tyler Robinson’s Father Refuses $1.15 Million Reward — Offers It to Charlie Kirk’s Family

Miami, Florida – September 14, 2025

In a surprising gesture that has stunned the nation, the father of Tyler Robinson—accused of fatally shooting conservative activist Charlie Kirk—has announced he will decline the $1.15 million reward for turning in his son, and instead donate the full sum to Kirk’s family.

The reward had swelled rapidly in the wake of Kirk’s highly publicized death. The FBI initially offered $100,000, with many political figures and private donors piling on contributions. Among them, billionaire Bill Ackman boosted the total reward to $1 million, after which more pledges pushed it up further to $1.15 million.

Robinson’s father became eligible for the payout after his tip led directly to the arrest of his son. Under the terms laid out, the donor community—including Ackman—had already said the money would be paid if the father was cleared of any wrongdoing.

But in an emotional public statement, Robinson’s father declared that he will not accept a single cent. “This is what a father is supposed to do. My son wronged the Kirk family, and it’s my responsibility to help him face that mistake,” he said. “The money is enormous, but it’s not meant for me. I want it to go to the Kirk family instead.”

The announcement has drawn widespread praise: many commentators on social media are calling the move “an act of courage and humility.” Others see it as an attempt—albeit under tragic circumstances—to offer some measure of healing after an unthinkable loss.

Officials with the FBI confirmed that they are now working on the logistical and legal processes required to transfer the reward funds to the Kirk family. Legal experts say that while this kind of donation is highly unusual, it can be carried out so long as all parties, including the donor, the recipient, and any donors who contributed to the reward fund, agree to it.

Bill Ackman responded through social media (“X”), stating: “I always keep my word. If the family wishes to give the reward to the Kirks, I will honor that. It speaks volumes about his integrity.”

Tyler Robinson remains in custody, awaiting trial. But his father’s decision ensures that this story will be remembered not just for the tragedy, but also for a rare act of public humility and accountability. The coming weeks are expected to clarify exactly how the reward will be transferred—and whether it will indeed reach Charlie Kirk’s family as promised.
