Verstappen ‘community service’ PUNISHMENT revealed by FIA
Max Verstappen, the reigning Formula 1 champion, has received details of his community service punishment imposed by the FIA.
Although 2024 was a triumphant year for Verstappen on the track, his interactions with the sport’s governing body were often contentious.
The incident that triggered the penalty occurred during the Singapore Grand Prix when Verstappen was reprimanded for using profanity in a press conference.
This incident followed the FIA’s crackdown on inappropriate language during media interactions.
In response to the punishment, Verstappen boycotted the official press conferences for the rest of the weekend, opting to address the media separately.
The FIA has now outlined Verstappen’s community service, which will take place in Kigali, Rwanda, as part of the grassroots development program organized by the Rwanda Automobile Club (RAC).
Verstappen will engage in activities involving junior competitors and the FIA’s affordable cross car, a vehicle locally constructed in Rwanda using FIA-provided blueprints.
The timing of the activity coincides with Verstappen’s visit to Rwanda for the FIA awards ceremony next week.
This program reflects the FIA’s commitment to promoting motorsport at the grassroots level while addressing misconduct by high-profile drivers.
Verstappen isn’t the only driver to face penalties for swearing during press conferences this season.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was fined for a similar offense during the Mexico Grand Prix.
The FIA’s actions highlight their efforts to maintain professionalism in the sport’s public engagements.
