Verstappen Faces Major Race BAN as FIA Confirms Additional Penalty Due to…read more
Just a day after his disqualification from the Spanish Grand Prix, Max Verstappen now faces an even greater setback as the FIA has confirmed an additional penalty that could see the reigning World Champion banned from an upcoming race
The Reason Behind the Ban
The FIA’s disciplinary panel announced that Verstappen’s disqualification for a technical infringement was not an isolated incident. According to the governing body, multiple procedural violations were committed by the Red Bull Racing team over the past three events — including ignoring parc fermé protocols and repeated breaches of technical compliance related to car setup and floor plank wear.
Citing Article 12.2. of the International Sporting Code, the FIA stated that Verstappen’s involvement in “a pattern of non-compliance” has led to the imposition of a one-race ban, pending final confirmation. The ban is expected to apply to the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, though Red Bull Racing has the right to appeal within 96 hours.
FIA Statement
“While we acknowledge the intensity of competition in Formula 1, repeated technical infractions cannot go unpunished. All teams are expected to adhere strictly to the regulations to ensure fairness and safety,”* the FIA said in a press release.
Red Bull Responds
Red Bull Racing reacted swiftly to the news, expressing “shock and frustration” over the severity of the sanction. Team Principal Christian Horner said,
“We’re extremely disappointed. Max drove within the limits of the car he was given. We’re reviewing the FIA’s report in detail and will consider all available options, including a formal appeal.”*
If the ban is upheld, Verstappen would miss the next round in Canada — a significant blow in a season that has seen increasing pressure from rivals McLaren and Ferrari.
Current Top 3 Drivers’ Standings:
1. Max Verstappen – 161 pts
2. Lando Norris – 148 pts
3. Carlos Sainz – 137 pts
With Norris and Sainz gaining momentum, Verstappen’s absence could dramatically alter the trajectory of the 2025 title fight.
The FIA is expected to confirm the enforcement of the ban within days. If Red Bull chooses to appeal, the case may be heard ahead of the Canadian GP on June 15.
