Why Leeds United are ‘totally calm’ despite quiet summer transfer… Full Story ๐Ÿ‘‡ย

Leeds United have been notably quiet in the transfer market, going more than three weeks without making any new signings since acquiring Jayden Bogle from Sheffield United on July 20. Despite the lack of activity, manager Daniel Farke remains unfazed, emphasizing a strategy of quality over quantity in building the squad. As Leeds prepares for their upcoming Carabao Cup match against Middlesbrough, Farke spoke to the media, expressing his confidence in the current group of players and the club’s approach to the transfer window.

Farke made it clear that there is no sense of urgency or panic within the club regarding the lack of signings. He stressed that Leeds United’s priority is to secure players who can truly enhance the team, rather than simply adding numbers. “I’m totally calm,” Farke stated. “There’s no panic at all as we have a really good group. We know we can’t spend a fortune on new players. We don’t need numbers; we need quality.”

The Leeds manager emphasized the importance of being selective in the transfer market, noting that any new addition to the squad must meet several criteria. The club is focused on bringing in players who not only have the right skill set but also fit well within the team’s dynamic. Farke explained, “We are quite careful. We have a pretty spirited, close group. A new signing has to tick all the boxes and [add] proper quality. Any deal has to be affordable and one where we are still in the driving seat. Many boxes have to be ticked. Sometimes you have to be patient.”

Farke expressed his full confidence in the club’s leadership and owners, acknowledging the challenges of finding the right players within the constraints of the budget. While he couldn’t confirm any imminent signings, he suggested that there could be developments in the coming weeks. “I have total trust in our key people and our owners; I can’t confirm anything right now, but we will see what happens over the next couple of weeks,” he said.

One option Leeds United might consider is exploring the Premier League loan market as the transfer window nears its end on August 30. However, Farke revealed a preference for permanent signings, citing the challenges associated with loan deals. He explained that loan players often arrive with the expectation of regular game time, which can complicate team selection and development. “If you ask me directly, permanent signings are always better because the player is fully committed and our player to develop. The loan market can be a bit tricky. Some players are not guaranteed to play, which makes it difficult,” Farke said.

Farke also highlighted that he does not guarantee playing time for loan players, reinforcing the idea that every player must earn their spot in the starting lineup based on their performance in training. This merit-based approach ensures that no player is given preferential treatment, regardless of their status or the terms of their loan agreement. “Premiership loans come here to get game time. If you cannot guarantee [game time], a loan does not make sense for some players. [I] would prefer a permanent signing because they are committed through difficult phases,” Farke added.

Farke’s commitment to fair competition within the squad was further underscored when he stated, “As long as I am in charge, this will always be the case. For me, itโ€™s not about salaries, CVs or transfer sums, or how highly a player is valued on Transfermarkt. It’s what you deliver and your quality on the training pitch. Itโ€™s never a guarantee whoever I bring in that he plays.”

Leeds United’s approach to the transfer market this summer has been one of careful consideration and strategic planning. Despite the lack of new signings in recent weeks, Farke is confident in the current squad and believes that any new additions must bring real quality to the team. With the transfer window closing soon, the club remains patient, knowing that the right opportunity may still present itself. Meanwhile, Farke’s preference for permanent signings over loans reflects his desire for players who are fully committed to the club’s long-term success.
