BREAKING: Yuki Tsunoda ISSUES his Verdict over Red Bull S…read more

As speculation grows that Yuki Tsunoda may replace Liam Lawson at Red Bull ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix, past remarks from the Japanese driver about securing a spot on the team have resurfaced.

Tsunoda was previously considered as a candidate to take over Sergio Perez’s seat for the 2025 season but was ultimately passed over in favor of his former teammate, Lawson. However, the Kiwi has struggled in his full-time role, failing to finish in Australia and showing a lack of pace in Shanghai. While Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has publicly backed Lawson, he acknowledged that the pressure is mounting on the 23-year-old.

Tsunoda’s Desire for a Red Bull Opportunity

Currently driving for Racing Bulls, Tsunoda has been open about his goal to earn a Red Bull promotion. Speaking at the Las Vegas Grand Prix last year, he emphasized that his performances would be the key to changing the team’s decision.

“All I can control is my performance, like I’ve been showing this year [2024],”he told the media “I trust myself to deliver consistent results and hopefully make them reconsider.”

He added:  “Even if nothing changes, I’ll give my best effort. I know what I’m capable of at Red Bull, but for now, I need to focus on strong performances and let the team make their decision.”

Red Bull’s Early-Season Struggles

After losing the constructors’ championship to McLaren in 2024, Red Bull is determined to reclaim the top spot. However, just two races into the season, they already trail McLaren by 42 points and sit behind Mercedes in the standings.

Concerns are also growing over Max Verstappen’s chances of securing a fifth consecutive title, as he has struggled to match the pace of McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

With Red Bull looking for solutions, all eyes are on whether Tsunoda will be officially announced as Lawson’s replacement for the upcoming Suzuka race a decision that could significantly impact the team’s trajectory this season.
