Breaking:After Historic Season Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Named 2025…Read more

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been named the 2025 NBA Most Valuable Player, capping off a remarkable season that solidified his status as one of the league’s elite talents. At 26, Gilgeous-Alexander becomes the third player in Thunder history to earn MVP honors, joining Kevin Durant (2014) and Russell Westbrook (2017).

Gilgeous-Alexander led the NBA in scoring, averaging 32.7 points per game on 51.9% shooting, while also contributing 6.4 assists, 5.0 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game. His all-around performance was instrumental in guiding the Thunder to a league-best 68-14 record, their most successful regular season since the Durant era.

His efficiency and defensive prowess placed him in elite company; he joins Michael Jordan as the only players to average at least 30 points with such shooting accuracy and defensive stats in a season.

This MVP award also marks a milestone for the University of Kentucky, as Gilgeous-Alexander becomes the first former Wildcat to receive the honor.

Gilgeous-Alexander’s exceptional season positions him for a significant contract extension. He is eligible for a four-year supermax deal worth $294 million, potentially making him the NBA’s first $80 million-per-season player by the 2030-31 season.

Currently, the Thunder lead the Western Conference Finals 1-0 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, bringing Gilgeous-Alexander closer to his first NBA Finals appearance.
