The Aston Martin Formula 1 team has issued a formal statement addressing Fernando Alonso’s premature retirement from the Monaco Grand Prix, citing a technical malfunction that forced the two-time world champion to withdraw from the race.
Alonso, who had been running competitively in the midfield, was instructed to return to the garage after reporting a significant performance issue. Despite efforts by the team to identify and resolve the problem, a decision was made to retire the car to avoid potential mechanical damage and ensure driver safety.
In the official communication, the team stated:
“We can confirm that Fernando Alonso was forced to retire from the Monaco Grand Prix due to a technical failure, believed to be related to the car’s hydraulic systems. After careful evaluation, the team determined that continuing the race posed a risk to both the car and driver, and therefore made the decision to retire.”
Team Principal Mike Krack commented on the matter:
“This is a disappointing outcome for both Fernando and the team, especially at a circuit where every opportunity must be maximized. Our engineers will conduct a thorough investigation into the failure to prevent any recurrence in upcoming races.”
The retirement marks a setback for Aston Martin’s 2025 campaign, as the team continues to push for consistency in both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships. A full technical report is expected ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix.
