Carlos Sainz Says Lewis Hamilton’s Tough Start at Ferrari Was Always Expected

Carlos Sainz has weighed in on Lewis Hamilton’s challenging debut season with Ferrari, suggesting the British driver’s early setbacks were predictable given the team’s unique dynamics and pressure-filled atmosphere.

Ahead of the Miami Grand Prix, Sainz  who vacated his seat at Ferrari to make way for Hamilton in 2025  spoke candidly about the adjustment required to thrive with the iconic Italian team. He explained that Ferrari isn’t like any other team on the grid and that even a driver of Hamilton’s caliber would inevitably face difficulties early on.

“Ferrari is full of passion and expectation,” Sainz said. “Adapting to their way of working takes time. You don’t just jump in and have instant success.”

Hamilton’s season so far has been plagued by inconsistency  from mechanical issues to tactical missteps  leaving him short of podium finishes. Sainz, now performing well with a new team, noted that even the most successful drivers can face steep learning curves at Maranello.

“I’m not surprised,” he admitted. “Lewis is obviously a phenomenal driver, but Ferrari requires a different kind of integration. It’s more complex, and the transition isn’t quick.”

Despite the challenges, Hamilton remains optimistic about his role with Ferrari and continues to express confidence in the long-term project. Team Principal Fred Vasseur has also shown strong support, insisting that the team is evolving to better align with Hamilton’s needs and feedback.

Sainz’s remarks underline the reality that Ferrari, while steeped in history and prestige, demands patience and adaptability  even from the very best. As the season progresses, fans and pundits alike are eager to see whether Hamilton can turn things around and prove himself in scarlet red.
