The starting grid for the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has been finalized, featuring notable developments due to penalties and driver withdrawals.

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri secured pole position with a commanding lap time of 1:11.546, outpacing teammate Lando Norris by 0.209 seconds. This marks McLaren’s first front-row lockout in Barcelona since 1998, underscoring their resurgence in the championship battle.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen will start third, having set an identical time to Mercedes’ George Russell but earning the position by setting the time first. Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli complete the top six, with Charles Leclerc starting seventh.

The grid has been reduced to 19 drivers following Lance Stroll’s withdrawal due to recurring wrist pain linked to a previous injury. Aston Martin’s reserve driver, Felipe Drugovich, is unable to replace Stroll as he did not participate in any prior session this weekend, per FIA regulations.

No significant grid penalties have been applied, allowing the qualifying results to stand as the starting positions. The race is scheduled to commence today, Sunday, June 1, 2025, at 3:00 PM local time .
